After completing my artist research on food and my first shoot evaluation I decided that food did not suit my strengths, so I decided to move on from food to another theme which is

First Influence
Jelle Martens
Jelle Martens is my first influence for this unit 'Relationships', In my opinion Martens work is beautiful and very interesting, I like the way it makes the viewer try and figure out what the image is inside the shapes. Jelle Martens is a Belgium Artist, Photographer and Graphic Designer, many of his work has been exhibited Ireland's West Cork Art Center, one of which was his work displayed above this text, this series of images is called 'In The Quivering Forest', I his work works well because its interesting, it almost has a hidden meaning, because of the juxtaposition, between the Geometry and Photographs of nature. He combines both Photographs, Pencil Sketches and different Materials and Textures. His almost puzzle like creations consists of photographs being cropped into geometric shapes, he mainly uses Triangles, but has also used Circles, In my opinion, the work where he uses triangles tends to work best.
My Thoughts about his work
I believe that his work is trying to portray a message, the way the geometry cuts up all the different photographs of nature gives me the impression that he is trying to say that humans (represented by the Shapes) are interfering with Nature (represented by the images of nature). I want to try and do my own piece based on Jelle Martens 'In the Quivering Forest', the use of the word 'Quivering' also links back to my thoughts on the meaning of we are destroying nature, the word quivering means tremble or sudden movement.
